What is PeakSmart air conditioning?
A PeakSmart air conditioner is fitted with a demand response enabling device (DRED). The air conditioner receives a signal from Energex through the DRED during periods of peak demand which signals the system to cap energy consumption during this time. This usually means the air conditioner switches to economy mode. Network peak demand is usually just a few hours, often between 4 pm and 8 pm on a couple of really hot Queensland days per year.

These PeakSmart air conditioners are priced similarly to non-enabled systems and a large range of top brands offer models with this capability such as Fujitsu and Mitsubishi Electric . Once the PeakSmart is set up on your system by your electrician or air conditioner technician you'll not need to do anything further, it will activate when needed and return to normal operation when the network peak demand is over.
Fujitsu refers to their enabled models as having 'Smart Demand Control'. Within the Mitsubishi Electric range the feature is called 'Demand Response Capability'.
