Have you still not installed your solar power system ? If this is the case, you are not alone. According to Energex's latest report, of the 75 000 applications lodged before the 9th July, there are still 42 000 that haven't been actioned as of February 2013. About 26 000 agreements have been sent to customers and still haven't been signed and returned and the other 16 000 have been returned but the customers still haven't installed a solar power system.

42 000 people who have applied for the 44 cent tariff still haven't installed their solar power system!

What does it mean if I haven't actioned my 44 cent solar tariff application yet?

On the 23rd of November 2012, legislation took effect aimed at cost savings to the Solar Bonus Scheme. This legislation states that if you haven't had your solar power system installed and connected to the network (or ready for connection) by the 30th June 2013, you will lose your 44 cent tariff guarantee. You will go onto the current tariff scheme of only 8 cents. This is a big drop and will cost you a lot of savings in the years to come.

If you don't have your solar power system installed and ready for connection by 30 June 2013, you will lose your 44 cent tariff guarantee!

So if this is you, we suggest you beat the rush and start the process of getting your solar power system. We envision that with 42 000 people still out there needing to get a system installed in the next 3-4 months, there could be a long waiting list and you could miss out.

What you need to do to get the 44 cent tariff!

  • Have lodged a network connection application with an electricity distributor before 9th July 2012 (so if you haven't done this; it's too late).
  • Have an approved energy system inverter installed by 30th June 2013
  • Purchase and install a new solar pv system with an inverter capacity not exceeding 5 kilowatts.
  • Have a connection agreement in place with an electricity provider.
  • Consume less than 100 megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity/year.
  • Hold an electricity account with an electricity retailer for your premises.

If you don't have the above, then you won't qualify for the 44 cent tariff.

What if I don't qualify for the 44 cent tariff?

All is not lost. You can still install a solar power system and get an 8 cent feed-in tariff. This will still save you money and help pay itself off over the lifetime of the system.
