Solar power is a wonderful thing, free power from the sun, who wouldn't want some. Once installed solar power systems require minimum maintenance. However don't forget about them altogether, with regular check ups you can ensure you're PV system is working at it's best.
Solar panel maintenance
Keep your solar PV system running at capacity by carrying out a few simple maintenance tasks.
Please Note: Always turn off your solar PV system before carrying out any maintenance and cleaning. Any electrical work must be undertaken by a licenced electrician.

Clean
Solar panels are designed to be self-cleaning and usually the angle of the panels allows most dust and debris to fall off naturally. Sometimes bird droppings, grime, and salt can build up on the panels. If you can see this occurring on your solar panels, and you're able to gain access without climbing on the roof, a hose off and light rub over with a soft brush will remove anything the rain and wind won't budge. An overcast cool day or in the early morning or evening are the best times to give the panels a clean.
If you can't get to the panels without climbing on the roof, Trusted Solar, Air & Electrical recommend engaging the services of professional solar panel cleaners.
Check
Solar Inverter - By checking your solar inverter regularly you can keep on top of any reduction in output which could mean solar repairs are needed. Don't leave it until your power bill comes in to find out the system has been down for weeks. If the inverter is not working correctly it will display error codes, consult your operating manual and call a licenced solar power electrician.
Solar Panels - Make sure the panels are not being shaded by foliage growth from surrounding trees or bushes. Just a small amount of added shade can significantly reduce panel efficiency. Cracks or chips in the panel glass can also affect the panel output.
Mounting system and wiring - Visually check that the panels are still securely attached to the roof and no other parts or wiring has come out of place or appear loose.
