Australia's solar power industry will be boosted this year with a solar farm in Moree getting the go ahead this month. The project will increase the contribution of solar power to the New South Wales's electricity grid to a massive 200 megawatts making the state the largest producer of solar energy in Australia.
The Moree project alone will generate 56 megawatts. The solar farm will be the sixth large scale solar power project constructed in New South Wales in the last year and a half. The solar power expansion includes a 102-megawatt plant in Nyngan and a 53-megawatt solar plant near Broken Hill.
Despite this growth and the increase of domestic solar power systems and our abundant sunshine, Australia still trails behind many other countries in solar power production.
